FAQs: MidNite Solar CLASSIC 150 Charge Controller

☁️  How many 395w solar panels would I need to charge a bank of 10 x 100Ah 12v AGM batteries at 50% capacity in 5 hours with a MidNite Solar Classic 150 Charge Controller?

🔎  First, we must determine the battery capacity. So, we multiply 12 Volts by 100 Amps to get 1,200 Watt-hours per battery. Ten batteries equal 12,000 Watt-hours (12 Kilowatt-hours). 50% discharge equals 6 kilowatt-hours. 4 panels are required to charge this with 5 hours of sunlight. I’m not sure how much direct sunshine you’d receive from fixed panels where you live so that it could be six panels.

☁️  Can MidNite Solar Classic 150 Charge Controller be operated with a 60-volt battery?

🔎  Visit MidNite Solar’s Classic string sizing tool for sizing purposes.

☁️  Does MidNite Solar Classic 150 Charge Controller work with Lithium ION batteries?

🔎  Yes. Charging time and voltage are both fully customizable. It is nevertheless strongly advised that the battery bank have its own BMS.

☁️  What’s the difference between the regular classic and Lite?

🔎  The “Lite” model saves a few dollars, but it lacks a Digital Display and Arc Fault Protection. In addition, instead of the graphical display shown on the original Classic controller, the Lite version of this controller has an LED indicator panel with Dip switches. Therefore, I believe that the full-function unit is an excellent buy.

☁️  Is Classic 150 Charge Controller has enough to power a 1000w/24v panel and a 900w wind turbine in an off-grid setup?

🔎  The Classic 150 MPPT Charge Controller is a high-quality unit that will maximize the power of your system. It does not, however, have two inputs, so use one for each. If you want to buy one right now, install it on your solar panels and use the regular controller that came with your wind turbine for the wind end of the system.
